KLONDIKE: characteristics and method of application of a metal-effect paint

KLONDIKE: characteristics of the metal-effect paint and how to apply it

Fashions come and fashions go, but a metal-finish paint continues to entice the interior design world like no other. The reason for this is that the design possibilities of this decorative effect are truly immense due to its ability to jazz up an ordinary plain wall with a uniquely refined touch.

A decorative metal-effect paint strikes a perfect balance between the sturdiness of metal and the exquisiteness of a colour palette containing countless hues.

Recreating the tactile appeal of substances like metal on walls does not only enliven environments with a strong industrial-style flavour, but is useful for a whole range of other versatile yet disparate design projects.

KLONDIKE is a paint for interiors which, thanks to its properties, enhances certain metallic shades in order to define modern and contemporary surfaces.

Extremely easy to apply, the product comes in many different nuances and can be used with special additives that create particularly intense golden and silvery shades. Indeed, the palette comprises all the colours associated with oxidised metal, ranging from red to blues, but also including greys and green. It can be enriched with the Silver G200 and Gold G 100 additives.

Application method for special paint effects

1) Classic effect (using a Spatula)

•
Apply KLONDIKE with the PV 43 Stainless Steel Trowel, using uneven strokes between 15-30 cm long in all directions, leaving a light and uneven coating of product on the surface
• After 5-6 hours at 20°C, apply the second coat of KLONDIKE using the same method as for the first coat (described previously)
• Wait for approximately 1 hour at 20°C and go over the part which has already been treated, using the same PV 43 Stainless Steel Trowel but with no product, making criss-cross strokes approximately 15-20 cm long in all directions and exerting pressure so that the colour particles are crushed and made smaller, thus forming light and shade effects

2) Classic effect (Brush + Spatula)

The Classic effect can also be achieved using the following application cycle.

• Dip the PV 76 brush into the product, making sure it is well loaded, and apply KLONDIKE using small brushstrokes 8-15 cm long in all directions, moving from right to left and vice-versa, and from bottom to top and vice-versa, leaving a light layer of product which is more or less uneven
• After approximately 20 minutes at 20°C, use the PV 43 Stainless Steel Trowel to smooth the decorated surface, working in all directions. Next, after approximately 5-6 hours at 20°C, apply the second coat of KLONDIKE, still working with the PV 76 Brush and using the same technique as for the first coat
• Wait for approximately 1 hour at 20°C and go over the part which has already been treated, using the PV 43 Stainless Steel Trowel to make criss-cross strokes 15-20 cm long in all directions and exerting pressure so that the colour particles are crushed and made smaller, thus forming light and shade effects

3) Brushstroke effect

•
Dip the PV 76 brush into the product, making sure it is well loaded, and apply KLONDIKE using small brushstrokes 8-15 cm long in all directions, moving from right to left and vice-versa, and from bottom to top and vice-versa, leaving a light layer of product which is more or less uneven
• After approximately 5-6 hours at 20°C, apply the second coat of KLONDIKE, using the same technique as for the first coat
• Wait for approximately 1 hour at 20°C and go over the part already treated with the PV 76 Brush but without any product, using criss-cross strokes in all directions and exerting pressure on the surface

N.B.: the Brushstroke effect may look very different to the colour samples provided in the Catalogue, which were obtained using the Classic Effect method. In particular, the final aesthetic changes considerably when you apply the KLONDIKE + GOLD G 100 or SILVER G 200 ADDITIVE. We always recommend that you try it out first on a small unimportant surface to check that it is exactly what you want before you proceed.
